Microsoft is completely out of ideas. I think this is the saddest Microsoft video I've ever seen. And that includes this one.

This is pathetic.
Microsoft KK seems to be doing a better, or at least less pathetic marketing: http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/technology/2009/10/22/windows-7-whopper-celebrate-with-burger-king-s-biggest-burger-ever-115875-21765737/

I don't think the Microsoft store strategy will work for Microsoft the way it does for Apple for one simple reason--unlike the Apple store, where everything they sell is either made by Apple, or a very well-defined commodity (speaker systems, ipod cases) or an afterthought (non-Apple software), Microsoft will be dependent on selling PCs in their stores--which means training store employees in how to demo and fix HP, Dell, Lenovo, etc. with all of their idiosyncrasies and differences. More likely the store employees will just blame the clone makers for making crap.
These problems already exist in Microsoft's business, but running a store will just make them all the more apparent. I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft started making PCs, actually, since they on some level recognize that there is value in owning both the hardware and software sides (which is what they've done with Xbox and Xune.)

Heh. You know, that's almost exactly what the Apple Store in NYC did when they released the iPhone. I waited in that line from 2AM the previous day to 6PM when they finally released the phones. When they let people in, they rolled out a red carpet to the entryway of, gave high-fives to people walking in, and as you proceeded slowly down the stairwell into the store you saw apple people all perfectly arranged on the floor applauding you as you entered, with some dramatic Coldplay song blasting through the speakers.
Having not slept at all, it was pretty bizarre to walk into. I just wanted to run in, get my iPhones and get the frack out of there.
